“Leif Eriksson!”
the older Vikings laughed around the fire
“Trying to colonize Vinland like an idiot!”
“goddamn millennials.”

“Tiberius sending Germanicus to fight Parthia.”
the Romans scoffed within the Senate building
“goddamn millenials.”

“Iron Age!”
the elder Hittites clucked their tongues
“what, bronze isn’t good enough for these brats?”
“goddamn millenials.”

“They think building Minoan temples on Crete is just so woke.”
the Greeks who managed to live to forty were heard to mutter
“goddamn millenials.”

“Cuneiform!”
the people in their thirties laughed while gathering wheat
“Pictograms aren’t good enough for these goddamn millenials?”

“Look at these assholes, domesticating rice!”
they said the fields of ancient China
“Next they’ll be calling it artisianal rece, single-batch rice, organic free-trade rich!”
“godDAMN millenials!”

“Wheel. Wheel. Why are they forcing this thing on us?”
whispered in caves, whispered in grottos, whispered on plains
“Lazy motherfuckers don’t put in the work like we used to.”
“goddamn millenials.”
