They are called Arizona rooms. When Mom and Dad first bought this lot in the RV park there was nothing but a concrete slab here on the lot. They parked their motorhome next to the slab. Dad needed a workshop for his wood carving and Mom needed a sewing room. They had an Arizona room built, customized for their exact needs. The building was 7 x 14 feet and split into two separate rooms each with its own exterior door and window and A/C unit and completely separated by a solid wall. Later they added the carport and still later they sold the motorhome and bought a park model trailer. When Dad died in 2005 my brother and I tore down the separating wall in the Arizona room. We helped Mom clear all Dad’s stuff out and she took over the whole little building.
Now I’ve basically claimed Dads old half of the building. I’ve got 7X7 feet of floor space minus 2X3 feet which is the footprint of a large cabinet that holds Moms ‘old’ sewing machines. My new mattress is on the floor and beside it is the chair I bought at Goodwill yesterday for $15. My suitcase is beside the bed and chair. There is less than two square feet of floor space left in front of the chair for my feet.
In Moms side there is a U-shaped bench around the three walls where she has her three current sewing machines, one to a side. There is also the stacked washer and dryer. Two of her walls are covered with shelves. This is her happy place.
So yeah, yesterday morning Mom had a dentist appointment and on the way home we stopped at Goodwill and I picked up the chair I’d found during a previous visit. When we got home I finished moving the pile of crap that I’d accumulated around the chair I’d been using in the living room. Everything is out here now. Everything is still not very much.
I’d like to have a little table next to my new chair for my coffee cup in the morning but there is simply no room for one.
Today I did Moms laundry, set up the ironing board in the living room and ironed some curtains I’d washed, made Moms bed, talked to a new lady in the park who was interested in buying the golf cart, and ended the day with a dinner of pork ribs Mom cooked all day in the oven, and finally, with two hours of Rummikub. A very nice day.
It was 105 degrees today.
Tomorrow Mom has a doctors appointment to have the heart monitor removed from her chest that she’s had for a month.
Also tomorrow the golf cart is being taken away for servicing. It’s time for its yearly servicing and the right front wheel is squeaking.
And the internet isn’t working today. Both laptop and tablet so I know it’s not either machine. I’ve unplugged and plugged back in the WiFi routers with no effect. I have no clue. Mom says she’ll call Dish tomorrow. There’s never been a problem with the $35 a month Dish until now. There’s no dish on the roof. It comes in a cable from somewhere.
Yeah, first world life and problems.
