A Break in the Action? in Everyday Ramblings

I just looked at a weather map of the United States and we are basically the only place not having summer. We have gloomy warmish glare but soon it will clear, they are saying later tonight or tomorrow and then we get to have summer too!

It is Friday afternoon and I just clocked out from work. The big meeting on Wednesday was a surprise; it went well. We were so nervous, very important people were involved, including the head of Research for the whole institution. My mind may be focused on retiring as soon as I can but that doesn’t mean I can’t still be impressed or fret about my ability to stay until I can retire.

The reason our meeting going well was a surprise was that our relationship with this area before has been, not strained, but at arm’s length and all of a sudden they are reaching out to us and saying let’s work together to make things happen and we are like oh yes.

Let us do our thing! And already we are seeing results.

It is amazing what a change of attitude can do.

The news has been so incredibly intense and of such matter this week, last night I said no, I am done, I am taking a break and finished listening to a library loan audiobook recording of a novel that takes place in India during colonial times. A thriller/mystery where the focal point of the novel is a poet! Ha.

I love the fact that one can listen to audiobooks from the library. This one was read so incredibly well. It made a not that great a read totally engaging. My standards have certainly increased since I was a young voracious reader that would consume novels at an amazing rate.

I am still working my way through The Path of Modern Yoga and reading that I realized how little I really do understand about the history of India. And this book reinforced it. I also ordered an 18-hour Great Courses lecture series on the history of India to listen to as I trot around the track.

And now I have in mind that I need to visit all the trees that have been designated Heritage Trees in the city. There are 4 Hawthorns right in front of our historic chapel at church that are Heritage Trees.

It is my 63rd birthday on Monday and I am taking the day off so I have a three-day weekend. I am of course teaching tonight (if I have students) and Monday and Kes is coming up tomorrow to get her hair cut again and have a pedicure at the salon I go to and then staying the night.

The cats are excited and looking forward to having someone they adore to lounge around on, someone besides me, who has been so fidgety lately.

I splurged finally and got 100 poster cards made up this week about my classes. It isn’t much but it is a start to marketing my classes. I’ll feel more secure when I get the summer contract signed with the studio.

There is much to look forward to here. I hope we can have a relatively quiet break in the torrent of disturbing news and allow ourselves to take a break and refresh our spirits in good company and laughter.
