The Pot, The Kettle (and a Columbine) in Everyday Ramblings

The columbines are mostly battered by the weather this year so I was happy to get a relatively decent shot of one this morning on the way back from my Weight Watcher’s meeting.
I did have one student for class last night and I enjoyed working with her so that was a good thing. She’s very smart and for the first time ever at the end of our time together I got a bit stern with her and told her that while I took her through the guided body awareness exercise I do at the end of each class I wanted her to feel into her body and not think about her body.
She laughed when I told her that and told me that I really understood her, but honestly it is because I see my own tendencies reflected in her behavior that it was very clear to me.
I do appreciate all the marketing ideas but honestly it is not about knowing what I need to do or how, it is actually doing it that is the problem for me. I only have so much energy and I need to focus on doing things that nourish me (like taking pictures and walking and writing here) first.
Really. But I also need to do my 10-minute daily increment thing. I do have a Facebook page. It is called Meander Yoga. Facebook has gotten very very good at monetizing this sort of thing and I am loathe to give them any money at this point until I can get a handle on what is effective.
My next step I think is a Mail Chimp newsletter… and flyers and cards that I can carry around and put up. Again, the uncertainty of the studio space and the relationship with the church are factors here but I can do the newsletter no matter where I am teaching.
I also think I may need some accountability on this all. The specter of losing money does not seem to be enough. Although I can’t sustain that for very long at all and I may need to change where I teach some of the week.
Sooner rather than later. Difficult decisions.
With this creeping weight gain over the last year (I am four pounds over my goal weight) but still well within the appropriate BMI for my height I have been feeling a bit bloated and unattractive and am not enjoying the way most of my clothes fit.
I’d love to spend a couple of weeks at one of those high-end spas with the nutritious modest potion sized healthy food and walks and massage and yoga classes and spiritual practices and writing and… oh a hot pool or two would be nice…
… a move towards something to reset my focus and help me renew my energy for the challenges ahead.
One of the things I am finding helpful is a “try this at home” I picked up from Gretchen Rubin’s latest podcast.
Try This at Home: Write a haiku. A haiku is a form of three-line Japanese poem with one five-syllable line; one seven-syllable line; one five-syllable line.

I don’t have to share them with anyone, they don’t need to be good; it is the act of making them in one’s head particularly when out in the world and counting out the syllables that does the trick.
I am going to use this in my stress reduction workshop that I teach in July.
Oh and in reference to the title, the phrase the pot calling the kettle black… Trump calling the FBI director a nut job… well, you get my point.
