A Harmony of Mixed Elements in Everyday Ramblings

I hope you are able to get out into your gardens no matter where you are or what season it is… I love the irises here this year, again, the varieties more delicate than before.

In the days before coloring books came back into fashion for adults I picked up a used copy (but not colored in) of The Mythic Tarot Workbook. This was in 1988. Before St. Joe was born! It has a drawing you can color in and a guided meditation to go with each card in the deck.

Lately I have been thinking about the pages on the Temperance card.

Diego is now standing on that page because, well, I am interested in it.

The book uses a different deck that I normally use and in this deck this card portrays the goddess of the rainbow, Iris. Temperance is compassionate and merciful, and is equally at home in the sky, the earth and the sea. In this picture she is depicted standing in a green meadow (you choose the green) filled with irises just after a rainfall. (That would be appropriate for this moment in time here, no surprise there.)

A rainbow emerges, and then the goddess, she has wings because she is a messenger and I think that is totally cool. She is all about flow and changeability.

In my deck a man carries an exhausted woman into a waterfall that is full of the water of life and regeneration at the gentle urging of a guide.

Last night I was listening to an interview with an author who has written a book on connecting with the divine feminine genius within. She locates that in our body in the area where most of our reproductive organs are and she asks in a guided meditation for us to name that area. She says that as women we each have an oracle, a respected authority within this place, or zip code, as she calls it. ( A reference to our mailing address system here in the U.S.)

That seems pretty silly to me in some ways but as a teacher I know that bringing awareness to this area of our bodies is really important for both back health and the vitality of the body.

I haven’t decided on a name yet but iris and temperance come to mind.

Mrs. Sherlock has been taking a class in the Enneagram. I studied this about the same time as I got the tarot coloring book. She has also decided to embark on a year long guided program of spiritual development through our church where you make a commitment and hire a spiritual mentor who works with you one on one to give you exercises and monitor your growth on a particular path.

You choose that path and your mentor. She is much taken with the facilitator for this class and has asked him if he would do this with her. You pay the mentor for their time and she thinks, (as an aside) I might want to explore becoming a mentor as a way to financially enhance my ability to teach.

Anyway I am thrilled she is doing this! I absolutely can’t wait to support her on this journey and hear about the work she is doing. She already has some insight into life with her husband just in the short time she has been focusing on this.

As a refresher I looked up the characteristics of my number (I’m a six, I am so a six, loyal and reliable and…) it makes sense that I would be drawn to a card called Temperance.

I know I feel better and am better at coping in the world and being useful when I don’t overindulge on any level.

Even with the wicked Klondike ice cream bars I bought Friday evening to soothe my still swollen mouth and face that are oh-so-good

Happy Mother’s Day to you in a way that celebrates the divine feminine in us all regardless if you have children or not.
