RIP opendiary in A small but passable life.

I guess the good news is that we don't have to sit and wonder and worry if opendiary is going to go belly up.

How easy would it be for Bruce to take sealed bids and sell the domain name and database to someone who really wants to keep the community alive? I'm guessing it would just be the willingness to do it.

Now we're all refugees. And the stories of thousands of lives are to be scattered to the four winds.

I'll download OD to that crappy text file. The PDF option is too crazy to consider for hundreds of entries. I suppose I could spend the next week or so downloading, what?, 14 entries at a time.

And I can't help but think about how many thousands of diarists who are taking a break from OD and if and when they return there will be no site here. That is sad.

I, as Neogy Titwhistle, am already on prosebox. And how long before prosebox disappears into the ether? And how many people will leave there and go to EWS's site when he gets it up and running?

The opendiary community will never be recreated anywhere else. It's been too many years with too many connections made.

Life and love. Births and deaths. Lost souls found. Lifelong unions and friendships formed. Windows into other worlds opened. Home for many. A refuge for many.

We're all refugees now. Chaff in the wind. Victims of the 'modern' life.

It was about ten years ago, when Bruce made his plea and I bought the "Lifetime" membership for $100. So I guess ten bucks a year was a good deal.

Does anyone think Bruce is reading the comments left on his last entry as Diarymaster?

Adios, my friends.

May life bring you all that you desire.

Neogy Titwhistle

(That was probably my last entry on OD.)
