This was the sick reality of Berniedeadenders, edgelording out protest votes for Kremlin asset Jill Stein or whatever: white privilege. Getting so wrapped up in WALL STREET WALL STREET WALL STREET that they willfully forgot the much more immediately pressing civil rights issues for immigrants, for Muslims, for the LGBTQ, for Latinx, for African-Americans, for the reproductive rights of non-rich women and on and on. The privilege they had for seeing their issue as the only important one blinded them from doing the right thing and helping others. The egotism, while galling, the cruelty, while accidental, had an all too clear narrative. They didn’t know or care what dice they were rolling on endangered communities, they wanted their little short-term ego crusade. They wanted to fancy themselves revolutionaries, damn the consequences on “those other people”. Eleven months later, Nazis march in the streets, a torturer of Latinos is pardoned, the trans are banned from the military and every day in every way, the march to steal health care from the young, the old and the working poor moves forward. This is what we told you would happen but you didn’t want to listen because feeling like a revolutionary meant more to you, deep down, than those lives. Here we are now. I don’t like having been right but I wasn’t right because I was a genius or a moral giant or anything, rather because I simply had a smidgen of perspective beyond my own experience and needs. #ImStillWithHer and you should still be too. Or, you know, you should start being now, even if it’s too little too late. History calls out for our reckoning, may history be kind but honest.
