Kind of a slow start to the work-week. My manager wasn’t in, yet again, and another of my workmates has been off sick all week, although I saw a photo she posted of a grazed knee, so I’m assuming that’s actually the reason she hasn’t come in all week. So naturally, just like the past three weeks at work, it’s fucked LOL.
I did my best though, and got a hell of a lot done. Only left the one cage, which I would’ve also gotten done if there weren’t so many god-damn new lines. They seem to send them all at once and they’re so time consuming. I also seem to be the only one who bothers with tickets. You know, because customers don’t need to know the prices on anything when they enter a supermarket ^rolls eyes^
It was very interesting reading today that the Fair Work Commission has cut penalty rates for hospitality and retail works as of today. Basically that means there’ll no longer be extra money for working Sundays or public holidays. The whole reason I work every single weekend is because the Sunday rate (nearly) makes up what would normally be full-time hours if I did that during the week instead. Now, there’s no incentive to really keep doing it.
It’ll be interesting to see if the company I work for passes it on. They probably will, since they employ over 300,000 people Australia-wide. That’ll certainly save them a fuckton of money.
I especially feel sorry for the uni students and especially those working in hospitality. They earn FUCK ALL as it is! And it’s not customary to tip in Australia either, like it is in the U.S.
Them losing their penalty rates is really going to suck.
Yeah, it’ll suck for me for sure. I’ll be down about $100 each week because of it. How companies are doing to get staff to work a public holiday for a normal rate seems laughable to me. AS IF. CYA!! I guess this is a watch-this-space to see what happens in regards to my pay. My pay might be going down $100 each week, but my bills sure as hell ain’t doing the same.
