You know, I think that the first artist whose music you consciously purchased (as opposed to being a hand-me-down by a sibling or parent) is a lot like falling in love for the first time. That person is always with you no matter what, and I bought two albums (cassette tapes) shortly after I got my own little boombox. The first was Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette, and the other was Blue by LeAnn Rimes.

I saw her live shortly after that and I’ve always loved her music. I bought all of her albums the day that they came out and picked them apart. She and I are about the same age and so I’ve always felt very connected to her. I know that sound stupid, but it’s true.

She released a new album, it came out months ago around the world but was just released yesterday here in the States (even LeAnn Rimes, a country artist, is more European than I am ugh). I have to say, it’s the best thing I’ve heard since David Bowie’s new stuff. Her voice is remarkable and it’s more soul-tinged than you’d think. I would check it out.
