Tonight we travel to Wife’s parents. It is good. We don’t see them often and it is important to make sure Wife reconnects with her parents every now and then. Certainly means I’ve driven a lot lately, though. Christmas Weekend, drove to Des Moines. New Years Weekend, drove to Des Moines. This weekend, drive to NE Iowa. Next weekend, drive to Omaha. Not that I want to spend loads of free time in Tiny Town… but it begins to feel like I don’t have a weekend. Because I drive; then we do what Wife and Family want; then I drive back. There isn’t much… just lounging. Though, that might be different this weekend. Tiny Town is a mote of dust compared to Wife’s hometown but Wife’s Hometown is still only 6k people without much around. Though it is funny. Wife tells the story of how excited the town was to get a Dairy Queen many many years ago. I now totally understand that excitement.

I missed an opportunity. I was going to apply to a job this week… the town was bigger than my current county and it was less than an hour away from two MAJOR cities and good friends… but I missed my window because I felt like I needed to ask Wife if it was okay to apply. I should have just gone for it. So the general concept now, moving forward, is that if the job would get us to a Better Position… go for it. No going backwards; but even a few tiny steps forward have the automatic go ahead now. Then again… we’ll see. If Ran really can help me be a better attorney… a few more months here would be worth it. If he can’t… a few more months here would be frustrating to the point of violence.

In that regard, my day today could be a significant one. I have 3 Juvenile Cases today. 1 is just a pat on the back “good for you” for someone turning 18. Another is a “You don’t live here anymore, we’re not paying for your services” hearing. And the final one? Boss and Ran believed that the 18 year old should be adjudicated in Juvenile Court. Myself and the Juvenile Judge don’t believe that. So I assume it will get thrown out. But we’ll see what happens. I hope that, even if it does get thrown out, the judge won’t berate me for wasting the Court’s time. Because I was so “fuck this case” that I wouldn’t even put my name on it. Boss filed the whole thing right before she left.

After Juvenile Court? Who knows. I’ll want to catch up on Prosebox. I’ll want to have a meeting with Ran to try to get our offices synchronized and avoid miscommunication. I’ll want to get case work done on a number of cases that could likely be finished up soon. But I write “I’ll want” because… what I want isn’t always what gets done. What I want isn’t always what I do. So… there’s the reality of what I want and we’ll see what the reality of what gets done is.

And then home for a while. Seriously… I get that I bitch about the isolation (and justifiably so) but there’s a flip side to that. Wife hasn’t worked much this week. Almost at all. So every time I go home from work… she’s there. Watching TV. All evening. So I get no time alone to do things like Play Video Games, Jerk Off, Update Pathfinder Stats… anything like that. So I might try to leave work early just so that I can get a few hours solo today.
