The Beginning of the End is the Beginning in The Stuff That's Not Interesting But Is The Most Interesting Stuff I'll Write

The end of Open Diary would probably be one of the most trending topics on this site if it had the ability to keep track of topics.

I started mine in 1999 at the behest of an acquaintance from high school and kept it going for 15 years. That's half of my life. While I am sad to see it go because not only am I losing my entries, but I'm losing the entries of friends that are no longer with us. I have not forgotten James or Wil or Logan or the wonderful men from Texas that became confusingly infused with my early life in Los Angeles or the confused transgender girl whom I learned the harshness of gender reality. True intellectual growth happened during the last fifteen years and my rate of writing varied from year to year.

That being said, I'm not going to mourn the end of Open Diary simply because change is part of life. That is perhaps the greatest lesson I have learned from collecting all of my life experiences in one place. I started this Prosebox to begin the process of transition so that when this moment came, it would not be sudden and I would not be sullen. Don't misunderstand; I'm incredibly sad that Open Diary will not exist. In the midst of the vastness of the internet, it was like a quiet vintage Chanel suit that fit just perfectly when the need came for one to wear it. But change is inevitable and we must change with it.

I'm ready for the next chapter. And that chapter will be documented here.
