My grandmother’s in the ER so I need to distract myself.

1.ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
I have a scar on each of my palms from getting a nail punched through both of them simultaneously when I was, ironically, setting up for a Christian rock concert.

2.WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?
I stopped decorating my walls when I moved to Los Angeles, now they are completely blank and empty. I used to have a poster from The End of Evangelion.

3.DO YOU SNORE, GRIND YOUR TEETH, OR TALK IN YOUR SLEEP?
I don’t regularly sleep with another person in the room/house so the last time I heard an answer about this was when I was with Skyler, my roommate in Paris. He said that I talked in my sleep, but I was speaking French and he had no idea what I was saying (but apparently he could make out the word “Edgar”) and he assumed I was talking shit about Edgar in French… little did he know. So that makes me assume that I confess some dark truths like that “Talking In Your Sleep” song from the 80s.

4.WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
If you look at my music collection, I have nearly every genre of music in my collection. In my day-to-day life, I primarily listen to 90s Alternative music that I listened to in high school, euro-dance music or 70s/80s rock. If I’m listening to the radio in my car, I’m listening to the Public Radio station that plays classical music during the day and jazz at night. If I can’t hear Stevie Nicks, Madonna, Alanis Morissette or Judas Priest, I’d rather hear Chopin or Miles Davis.

5.DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME YOU WERE BORN?
I did ask mum once and I think I know but I’m not entirely convinced. I think I was an early-morning baby, about 6/6:30am. I’ve always wanted to know for sure because apparently it matters when reading the signs and I always find that amusing even if it is all crap.

6.WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW?
My mother told me once, I think I was born shortly after 2am.

7.WHAT DO YOU MISS?
I miss some people that aren’t part of my life, but at the same time, I don’t miss them too much because then I wouldn’t have time for the current amazing people in my life… granted, I don’t really have any of those right now, but, it’s a nice idea in theory.

8.WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION?
I mean, I think I like my Daria and Golden Girls DVDs a little too much.

9.HOW TALL ARE YOU?
6‘5”

10.DO YOU GET CLAUSTROPHOBIC?
I’m okay with small spaces once I’ve calmed down and realized it’s just a small space. I have a more difficult time, not with the lack of space, but with the idea that there might be a lack of oxygen.

11.DO YOU GET SCARED IN THE DARK?
No.

12.WHAT COLOR UNDERWEAR ARE YOU WEARING?
Black with a red band.

13.WHAT’S YOUR WORST FEAR?
I don’t know, I’m too emotional right now to tell you what scares me the most.

14.WHAT TYPE OF DEODORANT DO YOU USE?
Dove

15.WHERE CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF PROPOSING?
What am I, a psychic? I can’t even imagine getting married at all at this point.

16.COFFEE OR ENERGY DRINK?
I much prefer coffee simply because of the health benefits of natural caffeine sources… besides, I am concerned with consuming liquids in the variety of colors that you find in energy drinks.

17.FAVORITE PIZZA TOPPING?
I don’t like pizza.

18.IF YOU COULD EAT ANYTHING RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I just ate, so I’d really like some Thrifty’s Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream.

19.FAVORITE COLOR OF ALL TIME?
Teal

20.HAVE YOU EVER EATEN A GOLDFISH?
I’ve eaten authentic Chinese Food so I can’t answer either way with certainty.

21.WHAT WAS THE FIRST MEANINGFUL GIFT YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
Richard got me a vintage t-shirt for my birthday on E-Bay that he had shipped from LA. When I opened it, it was all ragged and torn from being 25 years old, and on the front was Bob Welch. I had no idea who that was and he just exclaimed, “He’s from Fleetwood Mac, right?” It’s true, he had been in Fleetwood Mac, though, not from the period in which I listened to the band, but I was struck by the fact that he did all this research into my interests to find me something I would like. So maybe this shirt is my prized possession because nobody in my life has ever gone to so much trouble for me. I love him for it.

22.WHAT TYPE OF COLOGNE/PERFUME DO YOU WEAR?
I just got this Japanese scent that I really like but I can’t remember what it’s called.

23.ARE YOU DOUBLE JOINTED?
I don’t know what that is and I don’t want to know.

24.FAVORITE CLOTHING BRAND?
I don’t really care too much but I tend to prefer American Apparel and Buffalo since they both have my size in pants.

25.ANY SPECIAL TALENTS?
I don’t do anything that somebody else can’t do better.

26.FAVORITE MOVIE?
I have several. Get ready.

C.R.A.Z.Y.
I know the trailer is in Quebecois, but watch it anyway because you’ll still get the gist of the movie. It’s amazingly well done and the music is incredible. My French teacher, after I showed it to her and the French Club, told me that it’s a movie that everyone should see so that they could understand the coming out process. Watch it, I do over and over again.

Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?
I’m sure I’ve posted these movie trailers over and over again, but I can’t explain how much I love some of these movies. This movie is a fascinating look at alternative lifestyles in Taiwan. There’s a very serious storyline that’s balanced out with fantasy elements and a b-plot that’s goofy and soap-opera-like. It’s a very sweet movie, I promise you. It makes me excited about life’s possibilities.

The First Wives Club

Frankly, if you haven’t seen this movie, stop what you’re doing and go watch it. It’s the most quotable thing I can think of besides Mean Girls or Golden Girls. I’ve seen it 587 times and I’ll watch it a billion more. Seriously, we can’t be friends if you don’t love this movie.

The String

This movie is a total fantasy about homosexuality in Tunisia but it’s so good. It makes me want to go to le Maghreb and experience that part of the world for myself. I know, it seems like all of my favorite movies are foreign, but I feel like other countries can focus on the minutiae of alternative lifestyles because in America we’re still trying to come to grips with the fact that non-heterosexual and non-cisgender people exist. It’s frustrating.

Yossi

This is a sequel to the very popular Yossi & Jagger, a movie about two soldiers who fall in love in the Israeli military. I think Yossi is much better because it deals with grief when you’ve lost your lover (to which I can relate) and the need to jump start your life after being saddled with the grief (again, I relate). But there is a very important scene near the end of the movie, and it’s probably one of the most important scenes in any movie I’ve ever seen. It’s a scene where the main character has to face his fear and it’s so moving and so real and it just gets me every time. It is the single greatest anti-body shaming scene in any movie anywhere. It’s absolutely agonizing to watch because it’s done so well.

These are some gifs from the scene.

27.COKE OR PEPSI?
I can’t stand either.

28.WHAT KIND OF CAR DO YOU DRIVE?
94 Ford Taurus

29.WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TELL SOMEONE HOW MUCH THEY MEAN TO YOU?
I tell them and try to back it up with physical support and contact. They need to hear it, see it and feel it in order to believe it.

30.WHAT ARE YOUR NICKNAMES?
Always and forever, Octopussy.

31.ANY PETS?
Tyko is practically mine, he’s a yellow lab.

32.FAVORITE QUOTE?

34.HAVE YOU BEEN OUT OF THE USA?
Yes, God but not enough.

35.YOUR WEAKNESSES?

I worked for my grandfather, and he fired me because I couldn’t roll hoses properly.

38.EVER DONE A PRANK CALL?
I only ever did it with one of those call boards that had Miss Cleo’s catchphrases on it. God, what a dumb idea.

39.DO YOU THINK EVERYONE OUT THERE HAS A SOUL MATE?
I believe that we meet people at different times in our lives who complement us in that period and choosing to move into the next period of each other’s lives requires effort and commitment… so I believe that we have the choice to have a soul mate.

40.WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE YOU FILLED THIS OUT?
Crying in secret at the ER for my grandmother.

41.HAVE YOU EVER HAD SURGERY?
I’ve had surgery on my feet and mouth but that’s it.

No.
