I’ve been on it for around two and a half months. Beyond the physiological adaptations, it’s taken some time to game when to take it. That is, the only real side effect has been insomnia. I initially had sexual issues, but they’ve passed. (Lexapro is apparently also prescribed for premature ejaculation. Which uh, isn’t an issue of mine. Sooo, now I just can last waaaay longer than I want at times.)

I tried with dinner. It would take a while to fall asleep, I’d sleep for 90 minutes, then wake up and have a lovely view of the ceiling for most of the night. Then as the sun’s coming up, I MIGHT sleep another 90 minutes. Then wake up feeling like a truck has hit me.

I tried with lunch. Similar results.

I tried with breakfast. Could barely sleep at all, and I was drowsy most of the day. But, this gave me a feeling of how the med flows through me. I get drowsy for a few hours, then there’s a surge of energy, like a homeostatic response.

So I tried right before bed. This seems to be working best for now. Still haven’t slept longer than six hours in months, but it’s better than 2-4 hours. I wake up relaxed but energetic, with only latent fatigue due to lack of sleep being the limiting factor. It’s fascinating to watch my mood slip during the day, full well knowing it’s probably due to the drop in seratonin. So, given the rhythm, I really try to optimize my mornings and afternoon, and spend the evenings relaxing. I mean, isn’t that what most people do?

Some week/days are better than others. But overall, it’s nice not waking up in such despair. Nobody wants to be on meds forever. For now, I’ll take this little help.
