mother tiresias jump the gun in poetry

rich men know the awful truth
that rich men don’t have to win
they just have to keep it close enough
to steal the day with a deniability
that is plausitive
then let the cowards that enjoy
relative comfort while writing down our histories
dutifully absolve them of their crimes
through the cycles of time’s spin
rich men don’t have to win
just come close enough therein
to facilitate the depths of their sin

oh, the stories they will write of us
on the worlds where it didn’t all go tits up
where it didn’t all go wrong

and some will laugh at all the tales
saying it could never really get that bad
such naked cruelty
could not simply be
one or two tricks of causality away
from their world where it all went
basically okay

and yet here we are together
trapped inside the amber
of a horrifying now
trying to get by somehow
long enough for our stories
to be remembered
