What the Heck in Everyday Ramblings

This is from Sunday morning too. It is in front of a house that is for sale a few blocks down. They put a lot of money into landscaping this small restored place from the 1800s. I think he was/is a doctor of some renown at the institution for which I work and she was/is a second wife. There were teenagers that were not when they moved in.

The house next door recently sold as well. They had teenagers too.

There is a lot of that going on here. They just posted new plans for the vacant lot next to us. They are going to put up a 60-unit apartment block! Where are all those people going to park? The plans before were mixed-use retail and housing. Sigh.

The developers also seemed to have circumvented the historic appearance zoning restrictions in place. I will find out more about that as I talk to neighbors if it ever stops raining.

Just like the idea I had in my head that I could teach at the church for the next fifteen years turned out not to be true it seems like this neighborhood may not be as an enjoyable place to live as it has been.

I often think about the rapid pace of change this area started going through in the 1850s when the railroad came it. The rate of building was extraordinary. And then in the late 60’s when they tore almost all of it down and now again as population pressures crowd us all in.

My library loan of the book on the electrical grid here in the U.S. has expired. I think I am going to splurge and buy an electronic copy (which is kind of ironic) as I didn’t even get half way through it in spite of my best intentions.

Oregon was involved in some cutting edge tech in terms of electricity back then and knowing about this stuff helps fill in some images of what it was like to live and love in that time and this place.

I am going to meet the owner of the studio on Friday after work and get the tour. Fingers crossed that the terms are reasonable besides the rent. And that they have chairs. I can teach without chairs but they are very useful props.

I am only working until noon today. I have a dental appointment for impressions this afternoon and was trying to figure out how I was going to fit a grocery shop in there somewhere and thought what the heck, I worked Sunday I can take a couple extra hours off…

Because you know, I am a wild and crazy guy. :)
