Boxes in Flaming June

I haven’t been writing much. I’ve been enjoying a simple life, here. Christmas has been quiet, the first we ever spent away from the kids.
Refreshingly uncommercial. Sparing amounts of tinsel, chocolates, singing angels etc.
The dogs and I visit the wasteland near the house, most days. Twice a day usually. I pick up bits and pieces of wood, broken picture frames. I like the way the wood has weathered. The black dog seems completely at home here. It may be more difficult to go back than I’d thought.
I get them home and potter about in the garden, then use the hand sander, a few tools to cut them into these boxes. Useful for keeping things in.
These photos aren’t too good, with my camera phone. But you get the idea.
Happy New Year everyone!

Happy new year. Perhaps this was meant to sound like quiet desperation, I can't help but think of it as meditative and happy in a simple way. Yeah, without kids around Christmas is low key. I almost explained that to my very excited grandson when he called Christmas day, but chose to be excited about his new guitar. Something about walking dogs always makes an empty landscape fill up with sound and furry.

Living with a happy dog, a bike and some tools sounds like a darn good way to start a new year. Enjoy!
