But Then Again… in Everyday Ramblings

This is one of the ginko’s next to my place. November is yellow here.

So after seeing the whole team of dental specialists last week I was sad to hear that they have plans for me after January.

But I do get a break!

And I can make it a long one if this one tooth holds up. It gets harder to be relaxed each time there are stitches involved. This last procedure was only forty minutes instead of four hours so that was a huge relief but still I wouldn’t say it was a walk in the park. There was an unexpected tissue graft involved.

Only a guy would have invented dental implants. They are literally threaded screws with different kinds of caps.

These guys all get paid salaries so other than having private patients (and they can only have a few) they are teaching the rest of the time and they don’t have financial incentives to keep working on me.

My periodontist got a big kick out of having my systemic low bone density confirmed. He says that the general practitioners are so overwhelmed with stuff to look for that this is one thing they often don’t get to. I am glad to know now so I can supplement and eat more calcium rich foods.

My goal is getting to a healty retirement. It is kind of like planning for a wedding… planning for retirement.

Kes had her bone density checked too and we were all thrilled when hers came back healthy. I think she has our dad’s bones.

I am taking it easy today. No six-mile trek around town like I usually do on Saturday morning.

Kes is coming up today to drop off the rest of the stuff I took to the beach and a meatloaf she so incredibly kindly made for me without onions last night. (I am allergic to onions.) Then she gets to spend time with her closest friend that she doesn’t get to see enough and I am glad for that.

Yesterday she went and met the most adorable big eared, white pawed, brown tabby kitten in a foster home. If everything goes right he come home with her next week.

Are we excited??? We are very excited.

I think we should call him Joe. But I don’t get to decide.

Did you know that the reason cats can walk on very narrow surfaces (like fence tops) with one foot directly in front of the other is that they don’t have collar bones? And they have tails, those help too, as any tightrope walker will tell you.

I teach a balancing exercise where we walk toe to heel from the back of our mats to the front and it is challenging. My students often laugh and ask me why it is so hard.

Now I know. It is our collarbones.

Tonight is the time change here. Yippee! It is so very dark out now. And raining. It is raining again. I have hot chocolate and more than enough to read. Oh yeah.
