a diamond is just
dirty coal
transformed by pressure
and by time
a pearl is just
a bit of grit
transformed by an
oyster’s brine
perfume is only
whale vomit
mixed in with
a couple of herbs
I’m not convinced
it can only get worse
phoenix rose from the ashes
trees rise from the dirt

the whale vomit part made me remember watching this science-y show where these scientists worked out a way to analyze whale farts because it was important for some reason.
