Pondering, again. in A small but passable life.

The weather has finally turned Fall-like. The first day of Fall was a ninety degree day. Now it has cooled off into seventy degree days. And the nights are now cooling off. The last several mornings, after leaving the windows open all night, have resulted in temps in here in the low to mid sixties. Too nice.

Backpacking gear is strewn about the room. A pile here and a pile there. A backpack cannot be packed until the day of the journey because the sleeping bag is packed first at the bottom of the pack and it is damaging to the sleeping bag to be left stuffed in its stuff sack.

So there’s that.

So there’s that.

I’m still reading the Summary of World Philosophy hardcover tome. I’m up the 12th century. And I’m still reading the Journals of Lewis & Clark on the kindle. I’m up to May 5, 1805.

I have two paperback books of short stories saved back. I was saving them for poolside for whenever I return to the desert. Now I’m thinking I may pack them into the woods when I go. The kindle battery only lasted nineteen days the last time in the woods. After that it was just dead weight. I still need a back-up battery and a solar charger.

The only electronics I’ll be taking will be the two solar d.lights, the weather radio, and the headlamp for emergencies.

I still haven’t decided on thirty days vs. one week. I hate to be totally incommunicado for a whole thirty days in case Mom calls. Last time (March 2015) I went out for thirty days Daughter knew EXACTLY where I was because I left the tent in the same spot for thirty days. This time, in the Wilderness Area, she won’t. And I hadn’t planned on staying in the same spot the whole time. I’d like to hike around and pitch my tent in different sites.

Also, I can load a week’s worth of grub in my backpack. One trip in. That would be so much easier than trying to figure out how to pack in thirty pounds of grub.

So there’s that.

The Congress overrode the veto on the 9/11 bill. You know, cause Obama is black, and now they’ve realized that maybe they fucked up. Good. I mean just cause we’ve committed terrorists acts all over the planet for years doesn’t mean WE could be sued, could we?

One hundred years from now this era, if humanity does make it through it, will be known as “The Age of Stupid”.

So there’s that.

I watched Elon Musk’s presentation about his planned mission to Mars. Now I’m wondering, will he realize that choosing males to go may be counter productive? Think about it. Especially if it is to be a one way trip for colonization. It seems as if eliminating males would be the most efficient way to go. If the women colonists ever decided that males were needed they would have the (potential) males and females stored in a liquid nitrogen vat. But why would they ever be needed past the vat stage? Gender selection in uterus for females only would just be turn-about in fair play for the widespread selection now for males?

So there’s that. Just something to ponder.

Anyway, I need to find something to do.
