“ Why you peeing in a cup mister?”
“Parole officer. Why are you?”
“Mom. Why does prole ‘cifer want your pee?”
“Because he’s a sad little man. Why does your mom want yours?”
“She doesn’t. She just says I’m not supposed to use public tolits.”
“Um, kid, I think part of that is not talking to strangers in public rest-rooms in the city.”
“That’s silly, how’m I spose to talk into a cup?”
The kid screwed the lid back onto his caterpillar green sippy cup, buttoned up his robins egg blue pants, zip up his pill bug gray down coat. He spilled a little pee on the floor.
“Jesus kid, what the hell?”
“For my homeys in k-12.”

“Hey, where ya going mister?”
“What?”
“I said …”
“Where you going kid?”
“I asked first.”
“Yeah but I’m bigger, I could pick you up and shake you.”
“I’m going to Colorado.”
“By yourself?”
“Yep.”
“Huh. I’m going uptown, you know that’s as far as this train goes right?”
“I’m going to Colorado and I’ll have three dogs and my little sister can’t come.”
The kid waddled away in his gray pill bug down coat. The man checked his watch because he didn’t know what else to do.

Oregon has these recreational marijuana shops. Not all of Oregon. I mean some counties don’t allow for marijuana retail. Some of the recreational places are expanded medicinal places. I guess it explains an advertisement I see from time to time watching on demand on my computer. It’s a split screen of this fucked up guy getting his mug shot taken. Both screens; same guy. The punchline is that buzzed driving has the same consequences as drunk driving. Um, they might not have used as broad or multi-sylabic word as consequences, but they didn’t use the word penalty either which is what I think they meant, I mean no picture of a car wrapped around a pole and a mother crying. Although every state in the Union actually has that covered and even beat cops know there’s more ways to impair your judgment than alcohol.

I think the penalty should be higher but the consequences are usually lower. People drive slower and more cautiously on marijuana. Their confidence isn’t boosted it’s diminished. The reason the penalty should be higher is poor discretion. An alcoholic is addicted, at a certain point they can’t help themselves. I’m not saying that’s a good excuse and yeah they could go into rehab or take a cab before killing someone. The dope smoker isn’t craving the marijuana. Should actually know better.

Remember those anti-weed ads; Why Do You Think They Call It Dope? Well, it doesn’t make you stupid before you smoke it and the stupid is temporary. Let me rephrase that, it doesn’t make you stupider before you smoke it. I think pulling someone over to take an IQ test is not only a waste of tax dollars, but I don’t think any community really wants to know their average IQ.
