If Obama was born in Kenya. in Whey and Sonic Screwdrivers.

I lean far left, so naturally I think all of that birther stuff is nonsense. But, since I play devil’s advocate way too much. Why would it even matter if a president were born in Kenya?

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States. I understand the language of the constitution, but sometimes what gets lost is the intent. It’s obvious: our country would like to avoid a hostile takeover by a foreign power. The punch line is this:

Do you really think Kenya is trying to take over Murica?

The wording is clear, but I’m failing to see why it would matter in this individual case. Ditto if Arnold were to run for president. Would Arnold constitute a hostile takeover by Austria? Uh, no. And I tease about Ted Cruz being born in Canada, and technically not being eligible for presidency. But I wouldn’t dare think he constitutes a hostile takeover by Canada.

John McCain was born in Panama, which at the time was an american territory. But it was never an issue for him to run for president. Of course we know the difference. Obama is black, and despite the facts showing he was born in Hawaii, the far-right would like nothing more than to find a reason to dislike the first black president without being overtly labeled racists.
