Last leg of the trip in In the Kingdom of Suzu

We are in pocomoke city, md (about mid-point to home). We left the banks yesterday and stopped at MIL to see her again as well as my SIL otherwise we would have come straight home.

From the last entry forgot a couple of things.

Nag’s head has great waves and surfers generally hang out there. NH also has the largest sand dune on the east coast—jockey’s ridge. It is a state park and you can parasail from there, hang glide, hike—it feels like you are on the moon when you are in the middle of it.

No boardwalks at all in any of the towns altho there are a lot of shopping plazas. One other thing I noticed is that there are not. Many big chain places. There is no wal-mart or Applebee’s, chili’s, Olive Garden. There is a Lowe’s, a Walgreens, k-mart and I did see an outback. Only two dunkin donuts. Those places have their part but it is quite refreshing to not see them, rather it is local.

We pretty much stayed at the house this time, but we did go into manteo, which is right before you get to the banks, and went to a rum distillery. I am not much of a rum drinker, altho I do like a mojito but only with white rum. They had a sample of white rum, which was good, and then a sample of a honey pecan rum. omg! That was really good and could just turn me—ha ha. We bought a bottle of each (you could only get one bottle per person). The on our way back to the banks, we stopped for lunch at a local brewery and ended the trip at a wine tasting!

We did appetizers for a couple of nights, went to our favorite restaurant, Goombay’s which is Caribbean island fare. They have kid drinks like a Shirley temple only it is called a Shirley shark and it comes with a plastic shark and a shot of grenadine with seven-up so that you pour the grenadine in the shark’s mouth and it looks like blood. Princess M got that but Princess L at 13-1/2 is too grown up for that. Princess L was not too grown up to go ghost-crab hunting that night tho’ and act all crazy and like a kid.

We wanted to go out another night but we had so much food that we needed to use up and we didn’t even get to make a couple of our appys, have no idea why, maybe we just didn’t eat that much.

Tomorrow it is back to the grind, should be quite interesting going back because I got a FB message from a co-worker that the girl who was out, either for a suspension, or we don’t know what, is gone. Interesting, will let you know what I find out, until then, over and out!
