how your thirties will go in poetry

carbon-based though we are
we still seem pretty squishy
standing at the start of our prime
still we are just
water and carbon
we can be shaped into diamond
with just enough pressure and time
with just heat pressure and time

it’s not an easy way to go
not quick and not painless
sublimating from meat to sublime
but under the proper conditions
we all can compress ‘til we shine
with enough pressure and time

time and pressure
pressure and time
can make you amazing
if you can manage to survive
the process
