A rough week. in A small but passable life.

It’s been a rough week. A year ago September 5th was when my little sis died. She’s been in my thoughts quite a bit.

So, I’ve tried to keep busy. A week ago, Saturday before last, I found an email from the library saying there were a couple of books waiting for me. Liam Dog and I headed downtown at once to retrieve them.

I finished the first book, a non-fiction titled “People Get Ready” by Robert McChesney and John Nichols on Thursday. It was an excellent book. The basic premise was that no one really knows what is coming, society wise. There are no experts any longer. Change is inevitable and humans will either figure it out successfully or go extinct trying to or go extinct by completely ignoring what is coming and going the status quo route.

I started the novel on Friday.

So that’s the whole last week, just sitting in this chair reading. And thinking.

I found another series to watch in the evenings. This was an HBO production titled “The Night Of”. I don’t usually watch crime dramas, but this one was outstanding. Eight episodes in all. I couldn’t stop watching at midnight last night so after watching the last two episodes it was two hours past my normal bedtime.

There are two episodes of “Mr. Robot” left for season two. It has been renewed for a third season. And “You’re The Worst” is getting really good. I’m watching each episode of both those at least twice. Good stuff.

Daughter and I called her Grandmother this morning. She sounded well on the phone. She sounded alert and said she’s been staying busy. She asked if I was coming out for another Winter. I told her I didn’t know and that at least I’d like to feel a few fifty degree days out here first. We put the subject on hold for now.

I called my sis-in-law. Everything is copacetic in their world. Kids and grandkids doing well.

Next weekend I’ll be going to the grocery store and buying foodstuffs enough for thirty days in the Wilderness. I’ll buy almost exactly what I bought for March of 2015. Almost in that I think I’ll do something different for the daily coffee fix. Still thinking on it.

I’m thinking a week’s worth of food in the backpack and the other three week’s worth in the kitty litter bucket. I still have no idea how I’ll carry the bucket. I also have no clue how much it will weigh when packed. It should be between twenty and thirty pounds. But yeah, no clue.

I’m actually making progress on the sorting of possessions. The footlocker is packed, and done. The pile of odds and ends around my chair is shrinking. I still have too much stuff. Too much to carry all at once, but little enough that I could pack it all in a small automobile. Progress, even if at a snails pace, is still progress.

Anyway, I’ve got a novel to read.
