So tired of washing machines in Life as a Mom of 2 boys.....and a girl!!

A few weeks ago our washing machine started making a horrible banging noise during the spin cycle. We were kind of like “uh oh!” but we mostly ignored it and hoped it would go away lol. It didn’t. It started making another strange noise too so one night I went down and opened it and I smelled a burning smell so I unplugged it and rung out the clothes and said that’s it we have to get a new one. We were so bummed when we looked up the prices of washers. I know they last a while but who just has a grand lying around for a new washer? So, I complained in one of my baby birth groups on Facebook and was shocked when someone I don’t even really know offered me her old washer for free! She said they got a new set and so they didn’t need the old set but it still worked. We were so grateful!

So Mike and his mom drove an hour to get the washing machine. At home, we had no idea how we were going to get it downstairs. We had a dolly but it was too heavy to lift. We spent hours that night before we got it in the house. We had to roll it down a hill slowly on the dolly and bring it in the back downstairs door. Mike had to take all the glass sliding doors out, then him and his mom had to roll it up the stairs a bit and heft it in the house. Then all those heavy glass doors had to go back on. It was exhausting figuring it all out and getting it in (I helped a bit but had the baby to deal with most of the time).

After all that, the washer makes a horrible sound when on the spin cycle. It was so loud it was like a jet engine or a freight train or something. People told us their front loaders were loud too but we were blown away by how loud it was. We used it several times and then I was like there’s no way this is normal. I told Mike to look around in the machine and figure out if something inside looks weird. He discovered that the basket inside is loose and makes a clunking noise when you turn it. I called a repair man today and he said the repair for that is really expensive and not worth it. Omg! As if we went through all that for another broken machine!

I spent hours today looking up prices for washers and trying to figure out how we could get one. I can’t bring myself to trust anyone on kijiji just to find out we bought a broken machine. I finally found a consignment store that had a washing machine for sale for $224. The lady said it definitely works great. But the whole store has a policy that every item is final sale. We checked it out tonight and bought it. As well as a double dresser for the boys. Crossing all my fingers and toes that it works well lol. We are having both items delivered thank goodness. My back gets sore from lifting my 12 pound baby nevermind those huge things! Can’t wait to get them. The double dresser is old fashioned but awesome and comes with a mirror on top and it was only $168!
