FIRST entry of the day.

I just finished catch up reading for most of your pages. Sorry that I didn’t note. It sounds like so many of you are going through so many different things. Frankly, with the isolation around here… it is nice just hearing people’s lives. If we never meet or interact outside of a Prosebox Reader/Reader relationship… this site will have given me strength in times of need and I appreciate that.

Work Day Break Down:
(1) Case Files. Submitting Juvenile Court Orders.
(2) Case Files. Cleaning up closed/set aside files.
(3) Case Files. Submitting Adult Court Orders.
(4) Reviewed New County Computer Use Policy
(5) Case Files. Updated Weekly Case Calendar
(6) Bored, despite work that needs to be done, I spent some time surfing cracked.com
(7) ATTEMPT to respond to Demand for Production. Y’know… these legitimately difficult and important parts of the job… it would be great if my boss had any interest in helping me figure out how to complete it. Instead of, as she did, telling me “Those take forever, I hate doing them.” ....................Though, full disclosure… I am inexplicably, frustratingly, and unwillingly a giant child when things like this happen. Instead of sucking it up, trying my best, and potentially getting punished for my ignorance; I’d much rather simply… not do it. Like… I try to force myself to try to do it properly so I can send it and get in trouble if I was wrong… but emotionally and most of my mental faculties say, “No. Don’t do that. You don’t know how. Just… do something else. Do something you can do.”

And… the longer I work on this, the more those emotional feelings make sense. Because… this is a 5 page request document, specifically asking (by name) for everything that may possibly be involved in this case. I’m thinking “Here’s what I got, and I’ll write it down.” but… that is unacceptable. I need to make report on all items requested… but (again) I have no idea in most cases. I thoroughly, largely despise having ZERO idea on how to do something… especially when it is a large part of the job...................................... and I’ve done all that I can on that particular issue. And it isn’t nearly enough. Of the 5 pages of requested materials… I have 4 things. As much as it might make waves; I’m going to march into my boss’ office (after a 30 minute drive, of course) and demand that she actually helps me with this fucking thing.
(8) Update Monthly Case Calendar; Research Court Date (still can’t believe District Court only happens once a fucking month here. Just… shoddy way of running things).
(9) More boredom, loneliness, and emotional weight… so back to Cracked I go. But it speaks to something interesting. I was told that there would be significant reading as a lawyer. There was significant reading in Law School, and I was told that was because of how much reading there would be as a lawyer. But there is literally no reading in this job (with one or two very uncommon exceptions). Apparently, when law and reading were said to be inextricably linked, they weren’t discussing a County of 7,000 (2013) with a population graph that looks like a gentle backslash (seriously, US Census Tracker population graph from 1970 to now looks like: alt text
(10) End of Day: Print, File, Check rituals

… and I’ve reached the end of my day. And I’ve seen exactly 1 other person today (not counting my wife sleeping as I left for work).

And I’ve felt that this day (like so many days) was not nearly productive enough nor worthwhile enough.

RANDOM BITS for the day:
(1) While using the restroom today, the waste and ridiculousness of it struck me. We defecate into clean water… a resource whose absence in some parts of the world is a matter of life or death. And then clean ourselves with paper… still often made from trees. Don’t get me wrong… I’m thrilled to live in a country where plumbing is an expectation… but it did strike me as odd (and a little unfortunate) that we take resources like water and trees so lightly.
(2) There is a “which two characters from literature are you?” quiz on facebook and I figured… what the hell, might as well. I got Rhett Butler and Peter Pan. Any bibliophiles out there want to take a stab at what that combination means?
(3) I really wished today (strangely) that I could just send a letter to Paul Dini, Dan Didio, Diane Nelson, Geoff Johns, or Jim Lee and say “I can’t draw, but I can write fairly well. Plus, I know the DC Lineup backwards and forwards. And I have ideas on new characters and new story arcs. Any place for me in your organization?”
