The predominant theme of the RNC, as I have seen it while watching what I can… is that their stump position is Anti-Hillary. Much as John Kerry’s Stump Position in 2004 was Anti-Bush. And I genuinely, strongly hate when “Anti Opponent” is what you’re running on. Because after you get elected… it is time to get to work. It is time to DO SOMETHING. Which is why we’ve got the issue we have now. In 2012, the GOP stump was Anti-Obama… and when people got elected with “Anti-Obama” that is how they behaved in government… so nothing got done since they weren’t FOR much of anything.
But here’s why I’m in a bit of a place. When I hear Trump speaking against Hillary, I entirely agree with him in a lot of places. Hillary’s support of the TPP, her active campaigning against Net Neutrality, her handling of Benghazi and her internet issues… I agree with a lot of his characterizations of Hillary.
But here’s why I’m in a bit of a place. When I hear Hillary speaking against Trump, I entirely agree with her in a lot of places. Trump’s irresponsible claims about international affairs, his noted history of ego mania and bullying (not just at rallies but throughout his business career).... I agree with a lot her characterization of Trump.
So… I agree with both candidates… both candidates are atrocious. But… as I’ve been screaming and begging for over a decade… I want a candidate I can listen to… hear legitimate, actionable, genuine ideas on WHAT TO DO. Not “here’s why we hate the other guy” not “I’m so great, I’m so great”… I want to hear shit like “push up our sleeves, work together, and get to work”. But (what seems even more impossible) I want to hear it from someone who (1) knows what it means; (2) is dedicated to making it work; and (3) will actually try to get it done.
