Hello Hello in Everyday Ramblings

This shot is from this time last year from outside the practice field at Portland State that I walk by practically every day. The house under construction is done by now of course. What I wanted to capture is the castle folly house from afar.

I am infatuated with that house. And appreciate the fact that the people who live there take care of it and have a whimsical but also beautiful sense of design and clearly the resources to express that sense.

This morning was overcast and cool and looked just like this. Now in the evening it is mild and clear and beautiful. This is our normal summer pattern but having it now is a bit disconcerting as it is early.

Today was off the charts busy at work as we closed our fiscal year.

Right afterwards I walked down to the Oregon Historical Society to renew my membership. We are very lucky to benefit from many people who work so hard to keep this resource available. I still hope to spend more time on my neighborhood project in the year to come and they have a wonderful research library.

That actually was a brilliant thing to do, as the walk and all the folks out and about distracted me and for a good block of time I forgot about work and how much we did today.

We’ll have cleanup tomorrow and then a three-day weekend. And it will actually be a full three-day weekend because the church will be closed on Monday. For the first time since the ice storm in January I won’t be teaching on Monday.

I think I may take a little sabbatical for a month next summer. Yoga teachers need a break now and then too so we can focus on our own practices, which are different from what we teach. I love teaching but a break sounds nice as well.

This week I got that class action Kindle Book settlement credit and bought three mysteries that I would not have paid full price for otherwise. And I had one of Forever In Motion’s cozy mysteries in my queue too. A Flair for Chardonnay I read that last weekend. I understand the appeal of this new character but she was not my cup of tea so I think I will skip any more in the Sadie Kramer series. I do very much appreciate the opportunity of supporting our former OD friend though.

This week I read Charlaine Harris’s Midnight Crossroads; this is the third book in a series that is contemporary with the Sookie Stackhouse novels True Blood was based on. It looks like they are going to make a television series from these books too. It has a sarcastic talking cat in it named Mr. Snuggles that is pretty irresistible.

I enjoyed the book and it was fun to read something frivolous after the Gene book that asks so many big difficult questions about what we are doing with science these days.

I am waiting for the sun to go down behind the big hill so I can go get the rest of my steps for the day. There will be no problem getting to sleep tonight. I am kind of umm, too tired to do much else…

Hope you are doing well.
