Do you have people.... in These titles mean nothing.

.. who you follow here or in other aspects of life who pretty much don’t know you exist? Or care?

I have people I read here who interest me and who I sometimes try to engage who pretty much ignore me. I take that back, they totally ignore me.

And then… you know what?

I wonder who the people are that I do that to. And I feel a little guilty.

Life is so about uneven devotion. I love peanut butter but does peanut butter love me?

Let me give you ten things, please.

1) Jim had the forester come look at my fatherinlaw’s north woods. He said they were looking at oaks who were half way through their 350 yr lifespan. Puts things in perspective, much?

2) I am indulging the in the second or third three day weekend in a row. And the week of July 4 is totally without work. Yippee. I hope.

3) I fooled around on FB for a while before coming here - or while coming here - we never devote ourselves to one thing at a time anymore. Our brains are full of overlapping compartments - like the sinkproof compartments on the Titanic. It’s easier to post pictures on FB. Everything is easy on FB. That’s it’s charm. Everyone and their 87 yr old grandmother can do it. And they do. My friend Diana Nollen from the Cedar Rapids Gazette (I am dropping names, forgive me) is touring Austria and Italy (so far) with a singing group and she’s posting luscious photos - lots of the Vatican’s museums. Of course they would have old art, if anyone would. They sang a Mass and the Cardinals asked them to come back and do it again. And some years ago someone had visited the Coliseum but it was closed for renovations.

4) I am still indulging in peanut butter (chunky) and french jam on toasted Roman Meal sandwiches.

5) I am wearing my bib overalls and a sorta lady-ish sleeveless v-neck top I bought at Good Will. And my flip flops. Gracie and Stripey Butt and I went for a short walk early this morning when it was still a little misty. I took pictures. I put them in the computer - the new computers first photos except for a few someone else sent me. But it seems like so much work to upload them to Photobucket and bring them here. Is it possible that I have become THAT lazy? Maybe so. They were of the things I always photo so if you can remember any of my old pictures you know what they look like. There was a particularly fetching photo of the mailbox.

6) I’m studying up on Woodrow Wilson. I have A. Scott Berg’s monumental biography. I watched some youtubes on a night I couldn’t sleep. PBS had a big two part documentary on him. He was a Southerner and he sort of presided over the ‘separate but equal’ segregation. He was a romantic man, he liked the ladies. He didn’t learn to read until after he was ten. His parents were devoted to him. He broke his heart over the League of Nations, not unlike Brexit. He had high blood pressure that resulted in a stroke. His wife - his second wife - and his doctor ran the presidency because they thought it was the right thing to do. btw youtube has something called A President a Minute which gives profiles of each president in a minute. With music and graphics. Ah life is great is it not?

7) Some of these ten things could us some paragraphs but that defeats the bullet principle. We don’t want to make this too work for me, do we?

8) Prohibition of alcohol in US was passed during Wilson’s administration. He vetoed it, but Congress overode his veto by an overwhelming vote. What were we thinking, I wonder?

9) I am approaching the end, but not quite. My new roses are starting to bloom. I had a tiny yellow flower and a pretty good sized, red-yellow-orange bloom. They surround the pea tree. Lawn could stand to be mowed again. We are having a lot of rain and everything is lush. It’s been hard on Jim’s hay. He has a bunch of round bales that aren’t worth much. Oh well, they say rain makes more hay than it ruins. So we will say that.

10) Deb and kids are expected down this weekend. The firemen are having their 5k ++ this weekend. A year ago I was deeply into my Fitbit and I participated too - this year not so much. I seem to be devoting my energy to spider solitaire. Engrossing but not a lot of aerobic benefit.

See you all soon. Have a good weekend.
