palatine bridge in poetry

driving through redneck oblivion
in this case a hamlet called Palatine Bridge
a broken-down house flies a Confederate battle flag and
an American flag with Twin Towers in white
instead of the star-field on blue
we saw this on Memorial Day
so many mixed signals the mind recoiled

rural upstate New York
where the ignorant rabble hate New York City
the Babylon filled with non-Christians and immigrants
lady senators and black presidents
where they’re coming to steal their faded white privilege
or take the guns that they use to cover for the Milk Dud dicks
these shambling hate machines should despise New York City
but they’ll hail to anything
they can use to say they hate brown-skinned humans
I suppose

a Confederate battle flag in the king of the Union states
the residents are probably Germans or Italians who faced anti-immigrant hate
a couple decades after the War of Southern Aggression was even over
when all of its vets on both sides lay beneath daisy and clover

both of these paradox compounding each other
blue white and vermillion
in Palatine Bridge redneck oblivion
