is there anything more wasteful than sleep?
all the things you could’ve been thinking about
all the wonderful ways you could’ve goofed off
or perhaps a good deal more rarely
all the things you could’ve been doing
if you weren’t wasting your time sleeping
if I weren’t wasting my time on nightmares
being chased by gunmen
falling off cliffs
drowning in waterpark slides
being chased by gunmen
lost in dead shopping malls
unmoored in recursive virtual reality machines
being chased by gunmen
is there anything more wasteful than sleep
when all you have is nightmares
and wake up more tired than when you started?
