An Introvert Like Me in Everyday Ramblings

So last year the day after Memorial Day is when I started this dental extravaganza. It is probably a good thing I did not know where it was all going to lead.

I am adapting to the soft foods thing but it is effortful and I am not losing weight unfortunately. I am learning a lot though and over time I will make better choices.

One of things I discovered recently is that Carlo is mad, crazy mad for ice cream.

I’ve bought a soy version and an almond version, and a coconut version each in pints over the last 18 months but never full fat regular milk ice cream. I brought some home last Friday and he was in the kitchen like a shot when I opened it and stood on the edge of the counter reaching out bapping towards me as I moved with my little tiny spoon and the carton to the middle of the room.

Forget putting it in a bowl.

Their original person was a little boy in a dysfunctional home. Me thinks ice cream might have been used as a treat that either intentionally or not got shared.

Carlo is fascinated by everything I do in the kitchen. I can’t keep him off the counters so I have a place for him right next to the sink. One of his absolute favorite things is when I wash and stem grapes. I eat a lot of grapes. He likes to play with them so they get washed a lot.

I am going to get one of those soft small cat beds for him to curl up in there.

Today I made this surprisingly easy Cucumber Avocado cold soup with a little lime and mint that is very filling and easy. I put the leftovers in mason jars.

I have been seeing a periodontist, tomorrow I see the general dentist for molds and maybe a filling. They are working together. I am excited because I will shortly get an estimate on how much the crowns are going to cost and that will then give me an idea of how much of an additional outlay this will be in total and I can plan things like…getting a new computer and phone!

And some day in the distant but foreseeable future I will have new teeth and be able to eat nuts again. And toast and apples and…

I was reading back about how I was feeling this time last year and I was exhausted, deeply exhausted, just dragging because of the infected areas in my mouth it turns out. I am in so much better shape now.

I still get tired, but anyone would, working one job with built in overtime and doing another with lots of class prep and trying to get my daily steps in and walking everywhere and…

This morning I was able to run. I didn’t push it but I want to work on building my aerobic capacity so I will have the energy reserves I need… say, for a longer hike.

The holiday helps. I am teaching tonight but this makes me realize what a wonder not having to work full time is going to be. It is so much fun to do stuff because one is drawn to it, instead of having to do it…

We are heading into the heat wave it sounds like you all in parts of Canada have already been experiencing. That will be interesting.

The picture is of the lush foliage, and some of the larkspur and a glimpse of the view up near the lodge. Now that I have slept a full night the memories of the day out are happy ones in spite of the fact that it was exhausting for an introvert like me to be with such a big group of strangers.
