they forged a sword so strong
that it could cut through anything
anything
not just flesh or bone
metal or stone
the sword could cut through concepts
the sword could cut through ether
the sword could cut through the abstract
the sword could cut through hate
the sword could cut through time
the sword could cut through the devil or God
the sword could cut through death itself

the only limitation that the sword had was
it would cut its wielder just as much
as whatever it was destroying
if you cut through another knight’s heart
it would return to you through your own
it would take your eye with another man’s eye
if you killed with it you would die
and if you cut through time
you’d cut through your time too

the only limitation to its strength was
the wielder’s own ability to endure
its equal and opposite reaction

so the forgers named the sword Hope
of course they called it Hope
