How disappointing in Stuff

My ebay item arrived today (the portable charger I’d bought from the UK). I excitedly opened the packet to hear a rattling noise. Uh oh. The item itself looks fine and new, but it is quite chucky (which I expected). What I didn’t expect was for the inside connections to be loose on the device, therefore rendering it useless to use, as none of my compatible connections will connect to it. I haven’t played around with it or tried to open it or anything. All I did was try to plug my connections into it, but it just keeps moving away from me into the device and therefore won’t connect :(
It comes with a manufacturers warranty for 18 months but I didn’t buy it direct so I doubt I can use that.

It’s an electronic device. These things happen. I can only assume this happened in transit (probably by the rough bastards at Australia Post, given their reputation). Actually, now that I think about it, I think the truck that pulled up was a Startrack Express, so a courier.
I remember the courier waking me up about an hour ago by walking onto the front balcony and knocking on the door. This happens all the time due to my housemate constantly ordering shit, so I have to tear myself out of bed to answer it and I’m usually that fucking zombie-like from a sudden awakening that I can’t find my clothes in time before the courier gets impatient and leaves, so I just answer the door shirtless. Just as well I’m a male is all I can say. Searching for, and putting on a bra would be hell.
This morning though I did have to ‘tuck’ myself downward inside my shorts (which I did manage to find thankfully) because a certain ‘someone’ wanted to say ‘hello’ this morning. And no, the courier wasn’t hot. Dammit.

I’d be very surprised if they sent me this device like it is, defective.

So I went to my transaction item to look at the seller’s return policy. They have a 7-day policy from the date of arrival, so I’ve already sent off a return request. I’ve paid through PayPal, so both them and Ebay offer their money back guarantee, should I happen to have issues with the seller. PayPal also cover up to $45 of the return postage. I’m going to assume this will cost a lot to return, so that’ll help a bit. It only cost 6 pound to send from the UK, but sending from here tends to be pricey from my experience. I’ve looked up how to go about making the claim. I need to take photos of both the postage receipt and also the seller’s return address on the return postage (as proof I have actually returned it).

It’s annoying, yeah. I thought about just forgoing the $80ish bucks I paid for this thing. I’d actually prefer a replacement, but I see on the listing that they now have limited stock remaining, so it makes me wonder whether they did send a defective one to me if mine was one of the last in the bunch. It’s just a bit of a shame to wait a month for an item, only for it to arrive like it is.
Anyway, I’ve repacked it how I got it. I’d ripped open the outer packaging but I’m sure I can tape that back up. It still has all the declarations on it and warnings about containing a lithium battery, so hopefully that keeps me off a terrorist watchlist etc lol. Yikes.
It’s very sad to hear about that Egyptian flight that crashed. Some are saying it was most likely a bomb and others are saying it could have been contained in a laptop. But laptops all have to be scanned separately whenever I’m at the airport, so that’s surprising. That plane had been at two earlier African airports though apparently, so maybe the security was less? It’s all speculation and it’s very sad that this has happened. My heart always stops in my throat when I hear shit like this has happened. Even when I was flying to the UK, I was hoping that my plane wouldn’t get struck by a missile, like had happened a few months earlier to MH17. I’m so morbid, but that’s how my mind was running at the time.

It just makes me think that events like that can possibly occur even from packages like the one I’ve received in the mail these days, hence all the warning signs on it. I want to leave those on it as it is so that I don’t have to re-print and sign everything again, although given it’s contents, I’m sure I will have to anyway. Especially returning internationally.
Frustrating, but it comes down to the principle for me. I want what I ordered.
I now have to wait up to three days for the seller’s response, and if there is none, that’s when I can ask Ebay to step in. Will see how it goes.
I’m just more disappointed that I can’t use this thing I was so excited about.
I just keep telling myself that these things happen, especially with technology.

I’m now only awaiting that long-sleeve shirt I ordered from China. MAN that one is taking the longest of all to arrive. I ordered that well before I ordered this thing. It must be coming by boat and has been detained by Australian officials for deportation to Manus Island, Christmas Island or Nauru.
