life and time will take your favorite songs away
through the experiential association
that’s just how it is
you loved it
then you heard it ten thousand times
at that terrible job where they treated you so badly
you loved her
then when she left
it had been your song together
she got an accidental custody
these things that burrows into you
ear worms made by junkies in far-off mansions
that manage to still express your soul
they become corrupted with the experiences
to which they were attached
that life and time collapsed
to dust I guess
forgotten and absorbed to the Earth below

but shakedown
I was born in nineteen-seventy-nine
we can take our songs back in time
but it takes time
you have to let it take time
