Forever And For Always in Things That I'm Grateful For

I got rather interesting invitation the other night and despite my reservations, I decided to go. Edgar invited me to his stand-up show. He’s been hosting a monthly show for two years now and nearly every other one of our mutual friends from the Paris trip had gone to see it, but I cheerfully abstained because I had never been invited by the man himself.
I was incredibly nervous. The last time I spoke to Edgar was to warn him about the path that he was on. He was doing too many drugs, had lost his day time job and was in a total downward spiral. I’m not exactly sure what possessed him to invite me, in fact, I feel certain that he assumed I wasn’t going to come.
But I did go.
The show is rather unique, has been featured on the local news several times, and I was happy for his success if I little wary at what it might be costing him. It’s held in his apartment in Sacramento, and features free booze, free weed, and lots of audience interaction.
I’d never been to Edgar’s apartment before, and I showed up late, but before the first comedian went on. I suppose that this is to allow the audience enough time to lubricate themselves with mind-altering substances. I just had a beer.
The show was funny. Edgar was hysterical and lovely. He made a rather amusing joke about having recently taken the Kinsey test. His joke was something about having been pegged as a two which is “incidentally homosexual.” He said that that means if a guy happens to trip and his mouth falls on his dick, he would let the guy finish… and might have tripped him. It was rather amusing.
Edgar was friendly but not affectionate. I think he was surprised to see me. It wasn’t until after the show was over and everyone was shuffling out that he came over to me. I paid more than twice the expected admission fee, stuck it in his back pocket and said, “I’m so proud of you.”
Then I leaned in and whispered, “And you’re more than a two on the Kinsey scale,” kissed his cheek and left quietly.
He is quite remarkable, and I’m proud to say that I had that man’s heart in my care for an all-too-brief period of time.
