off Exit 198. in A small but passable life.

I had gotten an early start. I was at the bank before 9:30am. After nearly an hour waiting I was finally seated at a desk. I only had three tasks to complete. And alas, because of some legal mumbo jumbo I couldn’t get it done.

So, after returning home and fetching Mom and waiting nearly another hour, Mom had completed the three tasks at hand.

The reason for the trust fund was to, theoretically, bypass the bullshit and allow us to do Mom’s business for her. Whatever. Everything is in my and my brother’s name now and the trust is an empty shell, existing in name only.

Needless to say, after having pissed away four hours doing something I loathe, I wasn’t in a good mood for awhile.

That was Tuesday. It took me the following three days to recover from that stupid errand. So, today Mom and I headed out for more errands. And they turned out to be simple and easy. We stopped by a fabric shop for some fabric and then Michael’s for some doo-hickeys. After that we stopped for lunch at In-n-Out burger. No complaints there.

I still haven’t figured out exactly what I’m doing or supposed to be doing. I’m still hitting this reality gig one day at a time. Why not? I’ll do whatever it is I’m doing and then one day I’ll find myself doing something different. It has worked for over a half century so far. I’m fairly certain it may work for awhile longer.

I was going to write a story about “An Unintentional April Fool’s Joke” about how I raised my right hand and swore an oath of enlistment forty years ago and didn’t realize until later that day that it was April 1st. So help me God!

And never mind the story of how I met my second wife on April 1st and married her a year later on April 1st.

Yeah, life, off Exit 198.
