AND a long day of house hunting!

Monday was house hunting day! Oh boy!! We left Omaha at 9… arrived in my new city at noon… looked at houses until 6 and drove back arriving around 9:15!! A very long day of house hunting!

And of course, as is her usual, Wife is freaking out because she wants to make a decision but literally cannot bring herself to make up her mind.

There are three excellent opportunities on the table.
(1) A two story house with a completed basement. Fairly traditional. $69,900 and we’d be able to move in after about 40 days.
(2) A lovely ranch style home with a considerable amount of space. Large open rooms on the main level and in the basement. $85,000 and we’d be able to move in after about 40 days.
(3) A rental home with brand new everything. A fire last year forced the landlords to update everything from floors to appliances. A ridiculously gorgeous two story home with an unfinished cellar. A home like this would easily retail for 275 or more but the landlords are asking $550 a month but we wouldn’t be able to move in until all of the updates are finished sometime around June.

So… for my immediate needs… I’m fucked in every way imaginable. As I knew I likely would be. Asking someone to move to a different state and start a job all within 2 weeks is… a very short notice. And, honestly, that’s on me. I knew how badly the county wanted someone to start soon; so I gave a First Day of April 4. My immediate need, then, is to see if I can find an apartment to crash in for two months that would let me move in like… now. Of course.. the most likely place to find that is In The City… or about 45 minutes away from my job. So that is the IMMEDIATE concern.

But… Wife has faith that I’ll work that out with no problem… because she understands that I need to and don’t have a choice in the matter.

So now she’s going topsy turvy trying to decide between Own and Rental. She really likes the $85k house, lots of space and lots of rooms, nice kitchen and we would own it… so we could get a dog, do updates, change things as we saw fit.
I really like the Rental house; super modern and very chic, great kitchen and living room area; all freshly updated so there would be nothing to fix or worry about… but we wouldn’t own so we couldn’t get a dog.

Obviously… that is just quick and dirty pros/cons. There are a lot more of both for each property. And for Wife… there are EQUAL number of Pros/Cons for both places. So, as she usually is when trying to decide, she;s paralyzed with indecision. A very real example of Buridan’s Ass.

For my part, I’m somewhat torn as well. All 3 options are lovely and offer pros and cons. But… a decision as large as where we are living? I refuse to be the dictator that makes the decision alone because a decision needs to get made. I’m sure Wife would honestly want that… it is a situation that works great for her. If she never makes a decision, she can always rely on me to make a choice and then, if she isn’t happy, it isn’t her fault or responsibility. This kind of thing is too big to allow that kind of thing to happen. Besides, I have my own shit to worry about and figure out… like where I’m going to live next week and how I’m going to learn my job. Deciding which house to live in after all of that? It’s a big decision and not to be taken lightly but… my sense of urgency is otherwise occupied.

It was a super long day yesterday, though!
