I really should have done more research on this job before applying. I should have done more research before accepting. But… I needed work. I need experience. I need to get my career started! But… as I’m doing the research now? Trying to figure out how/when/etc for my work? Oh boy.

Expectation: The county attorney has an office in the county seat, a strict schedule for court dates/hearings and a secretary or administrative assistant competent and capable of helping with some of the phone calls and filings.

Reality: There IS no county attorney’s office in this county! The one listed is the current county attorney’s private firm in a different city. Now, I’ve seen this before. A private firm does the job of the county attorney so it becomes the county attorney’s office. HOWEVER… the Assistant County Attorney’s Office was listed in a different city, also where their private firm was located. So… does that mean that I’ll be working from home? From her office? SOME information would be nice!

Expectation: Case Assignments and Duties shared among the office with support of at least a modicum of effort.

Reality: In a recent communication I was told that I would be responsible for the following cases: assaults and domestic assaults, Operating While Intoxicated (OWI), Driving While Revoked, magistrate court, juvenile cases, and mental health cases. Which would leave the rare heavy cases to her. Assaults, Domestic Violence, Driving issues, All Misdemeanor Cases, All Juvenile Cases, all Mental Health Cases..... in a small community… what the hell else is left? Just drugs and property crimes. In a county of less than 10K people… are there really that many robberies, burglaries, and Felony Trespass? Or is this community so overrun with felony drug cases that she has to spend all of her time on that?

Not to mention the absolute terror I feel over the living situation. Less than two weeks. LESS THAN TWO WEEKS to (1) find a place to live; (2) negotiate prices and loans; (3) move; (4) get settled.... and then start a brand new job. With how things are working… we will get to see our realtor twice before I have to start working. Which means, we either have to accomplish all of that over the course of two days. Or I will have to set up a month to month lease in the only city in the area with apartment buildings (some 45 minutes away). Or spend up to $100 a night at the only hotel in the city.

This whole thing is driving me into a stress filled tizzy, I assure you. Living Arrangements and Job Changes… I realize this is what it is to plunge oneself into The Adult World but… to have no clues as to where I’ll be living, where I’ll be working, or how I’ll be doing my job.... those things were MUCH easier to deal with when I didn’t have a job. Now that I have a job… and still don’t know where I’ll be living, or where I’ll be working, or how I’ll be doing my job… very stressful.
