No egg laying rabbits here! in A small but passable life.

Last Easter I woke up in the woods after my thirty day sojourn. I packed up my camp and hiked out to the road. I brewed my coffee and sat and waited for my ride. Daughter’s mother soon arrived and we headed to the city.

Daughter had a wonderful Easter dinner waiting for us. Good times. Soon after dinner Mom called and said she was in the hospital. Daughter got online and booked me a flight for that Thursday. The last seat on the earliest flight.

Four nights sleeping in the van once again and I was back out here for nearly two months more.

This Easter found myself with Mom and three other oldsters heading to Golden Corral. I would’ve rather stayed home, but it is what it is. There was a long line. Mom almost passed out or threw up or both before I got her to a chair. But we made it and the food was good, like always.

Two hours later we were home. Mom is napping and I’m in my sweat pants sitting in my chair once again. And barefoot. I had worn socks and my shoes to the restaurant, the first time since I’ve been here. My feet really didn’t appreciate it.

I still haven’t figured out how to get back home. The main sticking point is how Mom would get groceries. I still haven’t let Mom drive outside the park. She says she’s ready, but I’m not convinced.

I guess I could leave and just come back whenever she calls again. I’ve already done that three times. The flights are cheap enough. I just hate getting settled in and getting a routine going and then having to pack up and fly out again.

Side note: It is 41 degrees with a wind chill of 31 degrees back home and 83 degrees here right now!

And then of course, now that the EBT has ended I will have nothing monetary to contribute to Daughter’s household. Before, along with dog walking, yard work, dish washing, and cooking, I was at least buying $196 worth of food every month. And now that her EBT has ended also the grocery bill may not be as easy to manage.

I could return and just do the true homeless gig, but she probably wouldn’t let me. When I lived in the van all those years I did find several spots in the city where I could probably set up camp, just in case I ever lost the van. And I did eat at the soup kitchen several times just to have added protein for an upcoming below zero night in the van.

I could definitely do homeless.

Anyway, I’m going to put off going to the pool until tomorrow. I like going at about 10am or so to get a good lounge chair in a good spot before it gets crowded. Here in a couple of weeks I should have the place to myself as the snowbirds are flying away in droves.
