I wondered what I should put up for Valentine’s Day (no sniggering in the back, please) and then thought why not one of my favourite pictures representing true love - Botticelli’s Venus and Mars

Venus waits while her attendants fry to wake up the exhausted Mars - tired from fighting? Or too much love making? I love the serenity of Venus.

SW… and I did not exchange anything this morning ( flowers, fluids) - since I bought her flowers last week, when they were cheaper - and she bought some prints on Wednesday.

What a joy to have a dry crisp morning - an invitation to get out an walk later in the day - although we have to be back to slump in front of the tv to watch England take Italy apart at rugby. Actually I really feel sorry for the Italians, they are the patsies of the six nations championship - but came within two points of beating France last week - and should have done. I hope they give England a fright.

And last night we watched the first two episodes of an Icelandic (!!) thriller called ‘Trapped’ - talk about making you cold - snow everywhere, and the weather got worse so the inhabitants of a small town in Iceland were trapped, a murderer on the loose from a ferry which was forced to stay in port, and a great amount of driving around in a swirling blizzard. I wondered if they waited to shoot the film (eight episodes to go) when the weather was right. We kept looking outside to check it was not snowing here!

And more art - Egon Schiele’s pictures of love from the start of the twentieth century.
