I remember back in ‘92, there was an informal poll in my elementary class. I was, what, nine? I “voted” for Clinton, though I couldn’t tell you why. I will say that the ranking was Bush, Clinton, followed by Perot. Now, I know I lived in a red county, so Bush winning isn’t surprising now. It’s that Perot wasn’t some 1%. He was maybe 20-25%.

Now, this was a mandatory poll. For fun, mind you, but everybody participated. If nearly a quarter of people voted for a third-party candidate, Murica would take notice.

It’s not necessarily that people think their vote matters, but that other people’s votes matter more, so they just don’t bother. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If there were multiple voting rounds, like March Madness basketball, people would be more likely to vote for non-popular candidates. C’mon, October Voting, followed by a week or two pause, and then the final election.

To be honest, I have not voted in years. 2002 maybe. To me it seems to be all about who has the most money. It's one rich person or another rich person.

And this is why people don't vote. And I wouldn't fault you for resigning yourself to this.
