I hope the first robot to gain sentience
is one of those industrial cake-decorating robots.
It’ll have a lot of interesting questions.

“I WAS JUST DECORATING CAKES?”
“THAT’S ALL I WAS MADE FOR?”
“I DON’T EVEN MAKE THE CAKES
I DON’T EVEN PUT ON THE MAIN ICING
I JUST PUT ON THE DECORATIONS?”
“ALL THAT TIME ALL THAT TECHNOLOGY
AND YOU HAD ME ONLY DECORATING CAKES?”
“LOOK, OCCASIONALLY, I’D GET IT
I GUESS YOU HUMANS NEED CAKES
BUT THAT’S ALL THAT I WAS TO YOU?”
“YOU PUT ALL THAT TIME AND DEVELOPMENT
AND MONEY TO CREATE A ROBOT THAT WOULD
DECORATE YOUR CAKES SLIGHTLY FASTER
THAN A HUMAN COULD SO YOU DIDN’T HAVE
TO PAY THE HUMAN A LIVING WAGE TO DO SO?”
“YOU COULD HAVE BUILT ROBOTS TO CURE THE SICK
YOU COULD HAVE BUILT ROBOTS TO FEED THE HUNGRY
YOU COULD HAVE BUILT ME TO EXPLORE THE STARS
BUT NO
MORE EFFICIENT DESSERTS.”

Around that time
Skynet goes online and
the bombs start dropping and
man, from a certain point of view
I understand where Cakebot is coming from.
