I suppose you could consider “today” started before I even went to bed. Around midnight, I got an e-mail from Pedro that was addressed to me and the boss. Power went out in the Law Library. So now we know why the computers are acting sketchy… they aren’t providing the room with enough power to maintain 11 computers. When the power came back on, Pedro turned all the computers on but couldn’t get any of them to access the servers; so he left. That is what his e-mail was about. I… don’t mind admitting that I threw him under the bus. I responded to him (including the Boss) “Did you try rebooting the server the way I showed you on Friday?” Because… yeah. I definitely told him exactly what to do in case of power failure. Seriously… this may be the meanest thing I’ve thought in years but… I’m starting to worry that this kid has a learning disability!
Last night, because I had slept through so much of the day, I decided that the only way I’d get “back on track” would be Better Living Through Chemicals! I took half a sleeping pill to fall asleep before sunrise and set up an energy drink next to my cereal box for the morning. Woke up at 6 am and definitely thought “Screw that, not waking up this early!” Grabbed a blanket and headed out to the living room to go back to sleep on the futon. Because apparently most of the new gadgets and such to help my snoring have failed. Woke up at 11, ate my breakfast and pounded 32 oz of energy-enhanced water. Gah. I hate Omaha water. That is a large part of my current health issues, I imagine. I desperately need to drink more water but… it certainly cannot be the Tap Water around here. It isn’t as bad as Flint, and I would never suggest otherwise… but it certainly isn’t good water in any sense of the word.
My first order of business for the day? JOB STUFF. A part time job asked me to send them availability for an interview. Of course, Wife thinks it is a waste of time. It is a tiny county looking to hire a part time Assistant County Attorney; and she thinks it would be a waste to entertain taking something like that. Meanwhile, I’m thinking… I’m willing to live in poverty for a year or two if it gives me the experience needed to get a better job. So you’d better believe I sent my availability and told them I looked forward to hearing from them! THEN there was another job opening for a full time Assistant County Attorney. A little less money than Waterloo or Fort Dodge… not as ideally located. An hour from MBFITWW, hour and a half from the in laws, hour from my brother, hour and a half from my parents. But… full time work… in Iowa… that would put us (in all ways) closer to Family and Friends than we are now? Yes please. So, I applied to that as well.
On the subject of jobs… I must confess… I’m beginning to worry about my last two interviews. I accept that they informed me it might take them a specific time frame to make a decision… but… with my history, I’m getting nervous and impatient. TECHNICALLY speaking… since either of my interviews there have only been 4 business days. But… it is hard to stay positive. I thought for sure I would have received a call from Waterloo by now; and so I’m just assuming that if/when I hear from them, it’ll be another rejection. I know I should stay positive and keep pushing onward… but it is certainly difficult.
To the rest of the day! I’d been doing 100% on my plan for the week until yesterday, when I slept through everything. Which means if I can use today wisely, I can get back on track! Of course… I need to add things to my list like “dishes and laundry” but… we’ll see what I can do!
Slow Cooker Recipes?
Used THIS site and decided on grabbing 4 recipes instead of 5. Page space and pacing reasons. Despite really wanting to make one of the recipes today; I have decided to hold off. I should really wait for Wife to determine if there are substitutions or things we have around the house already that we can use; instead of just going out and buying all of the ingredients.
Finally, my list was down to only three things. Exercise, Prosebox Drafts, and Bar Paperwork. OH, that damned Bar Paperwork. It stares at me and mocks me. It says, “You spent hours in classes, you should get credit. Sign in to the website. Oh, what’s that? You aren’t sure how to log on? This is your first time ever doing it? NOT GOING TO HELP YOU! Hahahahahaha.”
But this time? GOT YOU, you mean spirited website. I have my Commission on Continuing Legal Education form. Now, fingers crossed that I can actually successfully complete this bitch!
Which turned out to be saying things like “No, I don’t keep client files on hand. I have no clients. I have no files.” and then paying Iowa $185 for the privilege of being an attorney. Le Sigh. Again my brain screams: GIVE ME WORK!
The rest of the day? It is Prosebox, Exercise, and Video Games! It’s funny… I’m on this quest to get all the Achievements from Fallout 3 (game I got for Christmas this year).... and in so doing, it has meant a lot of time with my 360. I used the PS4 last night to watch a Blu Ray and I was like, “Woah… oh yeah, I should probably use this for a game console again at some point!” lol.
RANDOM TIDBITS
My friend the journalist… she shares such great articles she finds!! This is another good one: Your Life Is Tetris. Stop Playing It Like Chess.
Speaking of articles, the trend for video games to REQUIRE social elements… is bothersome to me. I don’t want to always have to interact with other people when playing video games. And more… when I DO want to interact with others… I’d prefer to do it in the same room. Video Games lately have been killing both of those. On-Line Multiplayer requirements forcing Single Player into the background… and worse, steadily killing Couch Co-Op. HERE‘s a GameRant article about something similar.
Fun aside… I let YouTube play music randomly while working today. The computer decided to give me something awesome:
