Music in meh...

I have a question. Not that anyone here can or will talk to me, but I just want to put this out there.

When it comes to music, I am a lyricist. I am always looking for the story or the meaning behind what I’m listening to. With rap/hip hop music, it’s rather hard because what counts the most is if it is dance-to-able. There is a small amount of hip hop I listen to today compared to how much I listened to when I was growing up. I grew up during a time when hip hop was golden. Yeah. Good times.

I am a fan of ballads mostly and can listen to them day in and out. When my mood is in a particular kind of way, then I may feel some kind of way. Most of the time, music is my air and I don’t like my air to be clogged full of bullshit.

Most of what I hear today is bullshit.
But, this is not what this blog is about. LOL

From time to time I go to church. I observe lots of things. I try to make sure before I sniff my nose at something it’s not because I’m jealous of what I can or can’t do. The subject matter of this is actually vocal runs & lyrics in Gospel/Church music.

I love a choral sound. I love the unison of voices. I love a soloist. Then you have those that vocally butcher music just because they use runs effectively. To me there is such a thing as run abuse. Anyway…I just got through watching a video where this girl was asked to sing. I’m sure she must be the shit of the group so they all wanted her to sing. So she sang, first couple of sounds were runs before she sang words. Now with gospel music, I’m still a lyrical hunter and if it sounds beautiful along with the words you are saying, I’m going to be moved and shed tears. The only thing to kill that for me are excessive runs. Well placed and timed runs, yes, sure. Excessive, I’m going to smirk. I’m not going to call out and “Yaaaas ,Yaaaas” for you. Not that I matter, but this is where I come from with this. The song should be about the Glory of the Lord. Praising HIM. NOT the person that is singing. I’m judgmental. I know this. It just irks me when people who are supposed to be so Christian and SO all about God, are praising men delivering His message. That’s a huge thing with me and I may not be the person to be able to discern who is and isn’t about that Holy life, but when I see how some folks live and how they act outside of church, I would be all wrong for calling them out.

I sound pompous and arrogant, but I’m coming from a perspective of the heathen that knows she has a trillion short comings and that also knows better, so I speak on how I see things.

And before this goes even more left that I want it to, I will say good day.

Kindest regards,
Sister

P.S. Hmm…Guess I didn’t have a question after all, more so than wanted to get that off my chest. lol
