tell us about New York
before Walt Disney took
all the good peep shows
made them shut their doors

tell us about way back
when we still protested wars

tell us about Haight-Ashbury
before those awful google buses
choked out all the oxygen and
shut down the record stores

tell us about the world
when a farmer might still go to town
in a hat riding on his best horse

tell us goddamned anything Roger
tell us which magazines you
submitted to last September
you made anything sound beautiful
with your soul so gentle and
your voice with just a hint of sand and glue

we could have listened to your wonderful tales and
your wonderful you
forever

we did not get forever
no one does, we’re told
but we are so fucking blessed
to have known you for a little while and
to have heard your amazing stories
for just a little while

thank you Roger
for telling us about your life
it was amazing
you were amazing
in us, you are still amazing
thank you Roger
thank you
