Daughter returned from her Mum’s yesterday saying her Grandma had called. I was to call her back.
I tried her cell phone. Got shunted to voicemail. Called her house phone. She said she’d just got out of the hospital. Why were you in the hospital? I have two slipped disks in my back. How did that happen? I fell. When did that happen? At Christmas time. Did you go to the hospital then? No. Why not? I didn’t tell anyone. Three weeks and you didn’t do anything? No.
So, Daughter booked me a flight out for Thursday. Another indefinite stay in the desert to look forward to.
One good thing is this is my fourth trip out in little more than a year and I should know exactly what I need to pack. In fact I’ve got most of it already in the carry-on.
This time there won’t be any snide remarks tolerated about me not being able to find work. Sure Mom, I’ll get a job and you can go into a nursing home. How does that sound?
I’ll be in more control this time since we did the lawyer stuff last time. I’ve got power of attorney and the medical directive and I’m the executor of the family trust now.
Anyway, I’ve got four days to pack up. I won’t be trimming my beard or getting a haircut. A desert rat I’ll be.
Daughter and I went out kinda early today on a grocery run. We stopped at the farmers market and bought twelve pounds of ground beef for $70. We then went to Food-for-Less and spent another $100 or so.
When we got home we cooked up some sausage and eggs for a brunch.
I’ve got things to do but I may just nap for a bit.
