Some Sort of Normal in Everyday Ramblings

After I admitted to being a slacker in the last post the sun came out. And my inner pony started prancing around like the true princess of the steppes she is and there was no keeping her inside. Sunday morning I grabbed the camera and started up towards the hills behind me.

That was actually kind of a mistake. What I wasn’t prepared for was a week after the ice storm there were still patches of ice up there. Eek. I managed to navigate them all without incident but it was slow and treacherous going as there isn’t even a hint of a sidewalk up there, one walks in the road. Well, that is a lie; one of the houses has a sidewalk, which I was immensely grateful for… that and the quiet expensive cars that had the good sense to drive slowly.

And except for having my heart metaphorically in my throat for the second half of the trek I enjoyed myself immensely. I was particularly happy achieving the balmy flatlands again though.

I was able to check out the new façade on the “Martini Glass” house and the decorations on the castle house, and was finally able to figure out what the JK25 in red and white lights that I assumed was a radio station plug was for.

This is a bit of a folly house. The neighbors are bemused by its ostentation. That flat concrete slab under the sign is a pool. I kid you not. Anyway it turns out the guy who built the house and is responsible for the sign in a Financial Planner, Investment Advisor and very successful. He became friends with one of “our” basketball players who died unexpectedly last year of a blood clot. 25 was his jersey # and his name was Jerome Kersey. He was beloved in the community as a warm and very generous guy and this guy, that owns the house wanted to honor him.

The sign is very bright at night. Very very bright.

Just a tad bit over the top, eh?

It started raining again yesterday. It looks like now it will rain, oh, basically forever.

The temperature is well above freezing though. Praise be!

After not being able to teach last week I had 14 students last night. It was fun! No new folks but basically everybody who has been coming came all at once. The room was comfortable and warm. One of the things I enjoyed was how happy everybody was to see everybody else. I love the sense of community and shared effort and the good cheer. It is not so very serious and that is a hoot. Plus I pulled in a pretty good haul in the donation jar, which is most welcome.

If folks enjoy the class, and benefit physically as well, they will keep coming back. And it is such a thrill to be able to make a space for that to happen.

I am in this sweet little cocoon of limbo between the initial appointments on the dental work and the time when the work actually starts.

It would be lovely if I could sneak some poetry in there somewhere now that my work hours are returning to some sort of normal.
