Well another week behind me. The retirement open house turned out very nice. I was surprised to see several that I’d worked with over the years come to wish me good luck and to tell me that I would totally love retirement. I have no doubt that I’m going to enjoy retirement.
A and Dudette with all my grands were there and the kids were each carrying fresh flowers and gifts. So sweet and unexpected. Sister actually got to the open house place before I did and she too had brought a gift. It is so very cool. It is a light that looks like an iron. Maybe I can take a picture of it as it is so cute and special. I will take pictures eventually of the gifts and post them. My daughter gave me a Faith plaque that has a light on the inside you can switch on and my daughter in law gave me a scripture picture.
My old boss, who’s position I got to start my supervisory career also came which totally surprised me. It has been 12 years since I’d seen or even heard from her. We picked up where we left off and it was just like old times. She brought a wrapped bunch of fresh flower too.
Presentations of awards were done and a gift card tucked inside one of the cards. One of my former employees gave me a silver flag. It is about 3 x 2.5” and is real silver. The flag looks like it is waving. Very thoughtful and touching. He was one of my first hires and had retired 2 yrs ago. He told me I was the best boss he’d ever worked for and that meant so much to me. Another previous employee who couldn’t be there yesterday had sent me an email and told me the same thing and to thank me for being such a good boss.
I don’t write the stuff above for any atta girls in notes, but only to express my sincere astonishment and to know that maybe I did supervise like I wanted to be supervised. With respect.
Boss was his usual fake self yesterday but I didn’t care. I was so happy that it is getting closer and closer that I just smiled and laughed. The commander and the SGM came to say thanks and happy retirement and the commander presented me with 2 awards. The Commander is so very funny and down to earth. He did some teasing of my grands and they turned so much shyer than they had been before he started talking to them.
My daughter and sister posted touching comments on FB and daughter posted pictures of the award presentation. They seem to think I have been a “big deal” over there, but I was a drop in rain puddle. It takes a lot of people working together to do what we do there and one of any group doesn’t do it by themselves. We all have our individuals responsibilities but that is the point, “we”.
Last night after the exciting afternoon, apparently triggered leg cramps to the nth degree and every hour or hour and a half, I was begging for relief, stuffing a banana in my mouth, taking potassium or just praying the cramping in my ankles and toes would relax. Oh wow! I was so sore this morning. By this afternoon it had gotten better but I did end up taking a nap. I was sooo very tired all morning. I did get the laundry, dishes, and wrapping done, I even did some cleaning this morning and around 11 went to the General Dollar and grocery store. Made chicken pot pie for supper and must say it was very tasty. No recipe, just chicken, potatoes, some mixed veggies with 6 big canned biscuits on top when oven time. Ummm.
Time to end this and do something. God Bless and take care
