the demons disrepair and despair have taken up their dispensation
their determined divisions of our divinity our maybe-souls
but brother we’re still buffeted by our lion’s shares of poetry and prose
sister just because we lost a little doesn’t mean that we’re black holes
we brush up against the dainty dukes of destiny and disaster
in terms of purest probability every single moment that we see
it’s only a matter of how many sigma away they are
it’s just a quirk of how those bell curves will be
this whole art thing to which we pledge our tattered allegiance
it’s all just love and Dear John letters to the pretend people
we have been or could have been, I mean, isn’t it
when will it get better again? if you must know, it won’t it’s dead
best to find something new that’s good and focus on that instead
only one thing in my life, in this life that’s true
be your own fangirl, be your own fanboy
ain’t no one else going to do it for you
art is the act of surprising one’s own secretest of self
craft is the act of turning those into surprises for others
we’re all just trying to get off that shelf
in this we are all sisters and brothers
we’re sighing we’re trying
we’re fliers we’re prancers
we are the fifths and the sixths
and the seventh chancers
we’re dancers
we’re dancers!
